Biography

My photo
My life-growing up in Southern Africa, studying in Vancouver, Canada and then pursuing a fashion and design career in Paris--where I worked at Ralph Lauren and studied at Parson's School of Art and Design along with my experience as Ambassadress representing an Embassy in Washington, D.C have contributed to the evolution of my personal style. I have taken inspiration from the many extraordinary places I have visited -- from the magnificence of the Chateau of Versailles, a zen styled house built on stilts at the prestigious Pankaur Laut Resort in Malaysia, the traditional plantation houses of the Southern United Sates, the charming blue and white fishing village of Comporta, Portugal or the Spanish Colonial Missions in the Amazon Region of Bolivia. I have discovered colors, countries, cultures and peoples from tribal villages in Mozambique to chateaus and villas in Europe that have been fascinating and inspirational to my taste.

Portugal

Portugal's location on the Atlantic Ocean has influenced many aspects of its culture. The Algarves beaches are a major destination and much of the nations architecture dates back to the 1500's to 1800's, when Portugal had a powerful maritime empire.

At the Convent of Madredeus in Lisbon one can find exquisite sacred art from the 15th and 16th century and the blue and white azulejos which were used as decoration throughout Portugal. The national tile museum is also found here where one can see the  different tiles from Portugal's rich history. The National Tile museum collects and studies the evolution of Portuguese ceramics and tiles in Portugal--and aims to promote its conservation. The Museum Nacional do Azulejo is one of the most important national museums for its unique collection which differentiates Portuguese culture, and for the building where it is located-the ancient Convent of Madre de Deus (Mother of God), founded in 1509 by Queen D.
